HE KIND OF REACHED OUT GRABBED ME REALLY AGGRESSIVELY GROPED ME AND THEN PROCEEDED TO RUN AWAY JADE THRASHER GOT HER FIRST LOOK AT THE VIDEO TODAY. SO YOU’RE MAKING A SCENE AND HE’S RUNNING AWAY. Covington police search for subject after reports of inappropriate contact, assault in area
Covington police released video of a person of interest after reports of inappropriate contact in the area.The man in the video can be seen wearing a white shirt and blue jogging pants with white stripes down the sides. Last week, Jade Thrasher was walking to meet her friends for dinner when she recalls a man jumping out from behind a building and aggressively grabbing her."It took me a full second to be like, 'he just grabbed me,'" Thrasher said.It happened around 6:30 p.m. near the Sixth and Craig streets intersection in Covington. Thrasher remembers that after he inappropriately touched her, he took off down the street."There was no hesitation," she said.Thrasher screamed, called the man names, and tried to cause a scene. A Covington police cruiser drove by, and she reported the incident.She is thankful she walked away psychically unharmed."I'm OK," Thrasher said. "I thought, 'he's running away, and he's going to do this to someone else.'"She posted her story on Facebook in hopes of informing the community. With it happening on a busy Friday night, Thrasher believes she was not his first or last victim."From what I gathered, he assaulted me and ran down to his car, which was about half a block away. He was driving his car around Covington and got a half block down Mainstrasse, pulled into an alley, and assaulted another woman. All within an hour," she said.Covington police said they have upped their presence in the area and the case is under investigation. "Patrol officers have stepped up presence in the areas and have been forwarding intelligence to our criminal investigations bureau," Lt. Col. Wietholter said. This will allow someone else to know your plan and ensure you arrived at your destination safely.Plan your trip so that you remain in well-lit areas or avoid walking late to utilize natural light as a safety mechanism.If you drive to a location to begin your walk, try to park in an area that is well-lit and has ample public traffic nearby.Be aware of your surroundings - Do not allow yourself to be distracted by a smartphone or other device. Headphones can be problematic as well because you cannot hear if another person or vehicle is approaching you.If someone approaches you and you do not feel comfortable, try to find an occupied public space or open business to walk to.If you are approached and feel that you are being harassed, be sure to verbalize loudly your desire to be left alone so that others in the area can hear you.If a circumstance occurs where you are approached, be observant and gather details so that the incident can be reported to the proper authorities. Important information to note is clothing, and physical descriptors of the person, such as approximate height and weight, age, gender, race, etc. Other important details include what the person is wearing, anything that stands out about the person’s appearance, and the direction of travel if they left the scene. If a vehicle is involved, a description of the car and its direction of travel is important. Noting the license plate of the vehicle is very important if it is possible to obtain.
