Please describe your job title and primary duties.

Royal Bank of Canada Call Centre Associate:
So basically I worked in a call center. I dealt with people that had missing cards and questions about their accounts. So their savings account and stuff like that. And basically what we do is we work on a computer, so you have to be really good at using computers and stuff. You have a headset in and you basically look at the different… Say somebody calls. You would either refer them to an associate if you can’t deal with it yourself, or you would deal with it yourself, pertaining on what the resources you have that are available. But what’s it called? If you can’t deal with it, there’s always a solution. So that’s what we really value at RBC and stuff like that.

Interviewer:
How would you describe the application and interview process?

Royal Bank of Canada Call Centre Associate:
The hiring process is different than all the other hiring processes at your basic retail stores. There’s actually three processes. So first you would apply online. First, you would have to make an account for RBC online, you would apply online. Then they email you back and then after you have to do a bunch of tests and the test is 30 minutes. So it’s basically putting you in scenarios that you would face on a regular basis on the job. And then based off of how good you answer those questions, they’d call you in for another interview where you speak to them face to face.

Interviewer:
What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?

Royal Bank of Canada Call Centre Associate:
It’s kind of the same thing on the computer. They’ll give you a scenario. So they’ll be like so-and-so calls you with this problem and then what would you do? Or something like that. It’s kind of hard for me to put it into words, but they give you scenarios and based off of what you would do, that’s where they’ll make the judgment if you’d be a good candidate for the job.

What set you apart from other candidates?

First and foremost I think that because I’ve had so much experience working with different customers and different people, because I worked current jobs that involve me working with so many different people. People who were angry, people who were happy, I kind of had that experience working with different types of people and that’s what set me apart from other applicants.

What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?

The best advice I can give to you is make sure that your resume is professional. Make sure that you have no criminal history and make sure that you have a solid referral, most likely somebody that works for RBC or that somebody that worked in a bank before.
